Wrinkled Crust
Latin name: Phlebia radiata
Wrinkled Crust is an orange crust fungus. It tightly attaches itself to the substrate, initially as small rounded spots, then merges to form large patches. The flesh is soft and jelly like and the surface is uneven and wrinkled, with tightly packed radial furrows, coming from the centre, which look like veins.
It spreads itself across dead broadleaf trunks and branches of deciduous trees, often on oak and occasionally also on dead conifers.
It can be seen all year round, but best in autumn.
Widespread and common in Britain.
