Willow Leaf Beetle
Latin name: Lochmaea caprea
The Willow Leaf Beetle is brownish, ochre-coloured, with a black head and antennae and measures in at just 4-6mm.
Adult beetles can be seen in a variety of habitats, but are usually found in wetland areas, from April through to October. They feed on various trees, including willows and birches and sallow.
Larvae feed on willow leaves, although they have also been found feeding on growing tips of crowberry.
The Willow Leaf Beetle overwinters as an adult beetle.
A widespread and common species.
