Water Plantain (Flowers)
Latin name: Alisma plantago-aquatica
Water Plantain has long stalked tiny three-petalled white, pink/purple-tinged flowers that sit in loose clusters on branching stems, above a thicket of oval green leaves.
It is an aquatic plant found in the muddy shallows of ponds and slow-moving watercourses. Water Plantain flowers can be seen from June through to August, but only open in the afternoon and early evening.
Widespread and frequent in much of Britain but scarcer in the north of Scotland.
