Tan Ear

Latin name: Otidea alutacea

Tan Ear is cup shaped, lopsided, irregularly wavy and split down the shorter side. The inner surface is smooth and clay-buff coloured and the outer is pale fawn-buff and slightly scurfy.

They can be seen from late summer to autumn, often solitary or in small groups and sometimes growing in clusters on soil, in deciduous and mixed woodland.

A widespread species but uncommon.
