Orange Ladybird

Orange Ladybird

Latin name: Halyzia sedecimguttata

The Orange Ladybird is easy to identify, with its pale orange body covered with 14-16 white spots, orange/yellow head and legs.

They can be seen from April through to October. It is often found in woodland, mainly deciduous woodland and parkland, at forest edges and on hedges. It is common around Sycamore and Ash trees.

The Orange Ladybird adults and larvae feed on mildew on trees and occasionally on small aphids.

It hibernates in leaf litter, or under the bark of trees.

The Orange Ladybird was once closely associated with ancient woodland, but it has adapted to feed on Sycamore and Ash.

Widespread in England and Wales, but rarer in Scotland.
