Green Hairstreak

Green Hairstreak

Latin name: Callophrys rubi

The green underside of this butterfly can make it quite difficult to spot when resting. It has a chocolate-brown upperside, which is rarely seen when at rest. Can be seen from April to July in many areas, from woodland clearings to moorland and also at the roadside. Feeds on many shrubs and herbs, including rock rose, gorse and bilberry.
