Goosander
Latin name: Mergus merganser
A large grey-bodied duck with an orange/brown head with a crest that can be raised. Goosander breed on lakes and on slow moving rivers in forested areas and are not uncommon. The Goosander and Red-breasted Merganser are a bit similar but the Goosander bill curves down at the tip. As you can see by the photo, Goosander have many ducklings in springtime.
