Donacia semicuprea (Leaf Beetle)

Latin name: Donacia semicuprea

Donacia semicuprea is a Leaf Beetle with a metallic bronze upper surface. The pronotum has a central longitudinal groove. They measure around 6 - 9mm.

Adult beetles can be seen from April to October in wet areas where Reed Sweet-grass is found. The adults feed on Reed Sweet-grass and Plicate Sweet-grass. Adults overwinter in cocoons. The pupa develops among the roots of Branched Bur-reed and the larvae feed on the roots and leaves of Reed Sweet-grass.

Donacia semicuprea is locally common in England, scattered in Wales and has not been recorded in Scotland.
