Common Fox-Spider (Female)

Common Fox-Spider

Latin name: Alopecosa pulverulenta

The Common Fox-Spider is a medium-sized, ground-dwelling wolf spider with variable colouration and patterning.

The Common Fox-Spider is the most frequent member of the genus and can be seen from spring to autumn in open habitats, dry heathland and woodland.

After the spiders have mated, the female lays her eggs and wraps them in a cocoon which she carries with her, attached to the end of her abdomen.

A widespread and fairly frequent species in Britain.
