Achaius oratorius
Latin name: Achaius oratorius
Achaius oratorius is a medium-sized black Ichneumon Wasp with white spots measuring around 11–15 mm. The precise pattern of white around the inner margin of the eyes, the white stripes on each pair of legs together with the white stripe on the first abdominal segment are distinctive. The second, larger pale stripe on the abdomen is often absent. Achaius oratorius can be seen from June to September in hedgerows and copses. The larvae feed on butterfly and moth larvae.
Achaius oratorius are thought to be a fairly common species in Britain but they are rarely recorded.
