14 Spot Ladybird

14 Spot Ladybird

Latin name: Propylea quatuordecimpunctata

The 14 Spot Ladybird is the most common yellow and black ladybird.

There is a lot of variation in the amount of each colour and the shape of the spots on them.

If handled, the 14 Spot Ladybird will exude orange liquid from its joints. The orange liquid is a form of controlled bleeding, which will stain your hands. It is also very pungent.

The 14 Spot Ladybird is common in a wide range of habitats and is active from May to September.

The adults and larvae feed on aphids.

It is common in England and Wales.
