The County of Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire is a county in central eastern England.

Lincolnshire has borders with Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Rutland, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire. Lincolnshire also borders Northamptonshire for just 18 metres, making it England’s shortest county boundary.

Lincolnshire can be broken down into a number of geographical sub-regions. The Lincolnshire Fens, the Lincolnshire Wolds, the Carrs, the industrial Humber Estuary and North Sea coast around Grimsby and Scunthorpe and the Kesteven Uplands.

Lincolnshire is home to Woolsthorpe Manor. Sir Isaac Newton was born at Woolsthorpe Manor on the 25th December 1642 and was his family home. The Grade I listed building is now owned by the National Trust and is open to the public all year round.

Sir Isaac Newton attended The King’s School in Grantham. His signature, applied to a window sill when he was a teenager, has been preserved by the school’s library.

Part or all of Lincolnshire is in Lincolnshire Wolds AONB, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
