The town of Weymouth in Dorset is a historic seaside town with a long and varied history.
Its name is derived from the old English for ‘river mouth’, and it was first settled by the Romans in the 1st century AD. The town has a long and rich maritime tradition, and was an important port during the medieval period. In more recent times, Weymouth has become a popular tourist destination, with its sandy beaches, Georgian architecture and lively atmosphere.
