An upland former moss cutting area, now part of the West Pennine Moors S.S.S.I.

Cadshaw

Cadshaw is a tiny hamlet in Darwen but the area is now good hiking territory at the top end of Turton and Entwistle Reservoir.

Ousel Nest Quarry

A disused quarry from the 19th Century now a Local Nature Reserve.

The Naze

The Naze rises to a plateau above Whittlestone Head and Wayoh Reservoir and is noticeably modified by industry. A large disused quarry and even larger looking spoil create the outline of the hill most often seen.

The Turton Reservoirs

A chain of three reservoirs in the Turton area with good walking routes and car park facilities and a cafe at the Jumbles reservoir.

Turton Moor

A patch of post-industrial, peat moorland to the north of Bolton, plenty of industrial archaeology, wide open moorland with an abundance of wildlife and some prehistoric remains.

Turton Tower

Grade I listed Turton Tower is a late medieval manor house, which was altered and enlarged mainly in late 16th and early 19th Centuries.
