The Japanese Lake

An ornamental lake that was part of Leverhulme’s Japanese Garden that was once surrounded by Japanese pagodas and lanterns. Behind the lake is a small waterfall beneath a simple arched bridge that has lost all its ornamentation but is still reminiscent of the bridge in the well-known ‘Willow Pattern’ design. This Japanese Garden seems to have given rise to the local name for the whole terraced garden complex, ‘The Chinese Gardens’.
