Stanmore Country Park
Stanmore Country Park is a 30.7-hectare (76-acre) public park and designated Local Nature Reserve in Stanmore, within the London Borough of Harrow. It is recognised as a Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation, offering a varied landscape of woodlands, meadows, and grasslands. The park provides a valuable green space for wildlife and the local community.
Historically, the park formed part of the grounds of an 18th-century estate known as Warren House. In 1937, the land was purchased by Middlesex County Council and Harrow Urban District Council to be used as public open space. Ownership was later passed to the Greater London Council and then to the London Borough of Harrow in 1976.
Stanmore Country Park is home to a wide range of wildlife. Mammals such as Reeve’s muntjac deer, red foxes, and occasionally badgers and weasels have been seen in the park. It also supports a variety of bird species, including tawny owls, buzzards, sparrowhawks, and kestrels, making it a popular spot for birdwatchers.
Visitors can enjoy the park via a network of trails that pass through its diverse habitats. The park is open all year round and is accessible from entrances on Kerry Avenue and Dennis Lane. Its combination of natural beauty and wildlife interest makes it a peaceful retreat within suburban northwest London.
