Royal Tunbridge Wells
Royal Tunbridge Wells
Royal Tunbridge Wells is a town in Kent, England.
Royal Tunbridge Wells’ history can be traced back to the Iron Age where it lay within the territory of the Celtic tribe called the Belgae.
Royal Tunbridge Wells was a spa town for about 200 years from the mid-17th century, based on natural mineral springs. Royal Tunbridge Wells is also known as ‘The Queen of Watering Places’.
Royal Tunbridge Wells has been a fashionable holiday resort since the 17th century when sea bathing in combination with drinking water from mineral springs was popularised by Dr. Richard Russell of nearby Tunbridge Wells in the village of Speldhurst. Royal Tunbridge Wells’ growth however did not really start until the beginning of the 19th century.
