Rockingham
Rockingham is a small village in Northamptonshire, England, located near the county’s border with Leicestershire. It is best known for Rockingham Castle, a historic Norman stronghold that overlooks the Welland Valley. The castle was originally built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century and later became a royal residence before passing into private ownership. Today, it remains a popular visitor attraction, offering guided tours and events throughout the year.
The village itself is characterised by its traditional stone-built houses and rural charm. Despite its small size, Rockingham has a strong sense of community and benefits from its scenic location, with rolling countryside and nearby woodlands providing opportunities for walking and outdoor activities.
Rockingham is also known for its connection to motorsport, with Rockingham Motor Speedway having been a major racing venue before its closure in 2018. Although no longer used for racing, the site is now being repurposed for logistics and automotive-related industries.
With its combination of history, picturesque surroundings, and proximity to market towns such as Corby and Uppingham, Rockingham is a village that retains its historic character while benefiting from modern connections.
