Monifieth
Monifieth
Monifieth in Angus is a town with a population of just under 10,000 people. Monifieth has a harbour and is located on the Firth of Tay.
Monifieth remained a small village until the early 19th century when it began to grow rapidly due to the expansion of the local textile industry. Monifieth is now thought of as a commuter town and suburb of the larger city of Dundee.
Monifieth was once an important ecclesiastical site in the early medieval period as evidenced by the presence of class II and III Pictish stones. The Céli Dé monastic order owned the land until it was granted to the Tironensian monks of Arbroath Abbey in the early 13th century.
