Leicester Cathedral
Grade II* listed St Martin’s Cathedral in Leicester was given its status in 1927 but the site dates back to the 12th Century.
Previously known as the Parish Church of St Martin parts of the building such as the north and south arcades date back to the 13th Century, while parts of the nave were lengthened in the 15th Century.
The current structure has been altered and restored during the 19th Century and the medieval spire was replaced with a tall spire in the Early English style by Raphael Brandon.
Monuments in Leicester Cathedral are to John Watton and his wives, dating to 1656, Roccoco style busts dating to 1746 and a standing figure of Hope dating to 1814.
