Ingleton is in The Yorkshire Dales National Park in England.
Ingleton is a village in North Yorkshire, in England. Ingleton is situated in the foothills of Ingleborough, one of Yorkshire’s famous Three Peaks.
The village of Ingleton is surrounded by magnificent countryside with mountains, caves and waterfalls, as well as important geological and archaeological sites.
The Ingleton Waterfalls Trail, Ribblehead Viaduct and White Scar Caves are some of the attractions in and around Ingleton.
The Ingleton Waterfalls Trail, has some of the most spectacular waterfall and woodland scenery in the north of England. It is a 4.5 mile circular walk. Thornton Force is the most spectacular of the waterfalls, dropping 14m (46ft) over a limestone cliff and is a stunning sight when it bursts in to view. The Ingleton Waterfall Trail opened on Good Friday, 11 April 1885 after a number of articles in several newspapers public interest about the scenery in and around Ingleton, led to the creation of the trail.
White Scar Cave is Britain’s longest show caves. The tour begins near the original entrance found by Christopher Long, a student who discovered the cave in 1923. The tour takes 80 minutes and covers one mile.
A short drive from Ingleton village, you will find the stunning Ribblehead Viaduct. It has 24 arches and spans the valley between Ingleborough and Whernside. It was built between 1870 and 1875.
Ingleton is a perfect starting point for climbing the high peaks of Ingleborough and Whernside. The fantastic limestone pavements of Twisleton Scar can be seen along the way. The views from the summits are superb and well worth the effort.
Ingleton has a rich and diverse history. This includes mining, railways and textiles as well as connections with authors such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Michael Moorcock.
