Bluebells in Horrocks Wood by munki-boy
Horrocks Wood
An area of mixed woodland on the slopes of Winter Hill above Bolton, with walking paths throughout and an abundance of wildflowers and wildlife. Most notably a good display of native Bluebells most years and both the local Roe Deer and a roaming herd of Fallow that are often seen in the fields nearby.
There are also excellent views across the town of Bolton to the hills beyond and on clear days Saddleworth, the Peak District, the Clwydian Range and Welsh mountains beyond.
There is an often badly eroded, gravel car park off Scout Rd. and walking routes on to the Smithills Estate, Barrow Bridge and Winter Hill.
