Roman Faversham
The Romans were the first people known to have established settlements in Faversham of some importance. Indeed Faversham was one of the first places in Britain that the Romans settled and they certainly paid much attention to both Faversham itself as many finds attest. The first historical reference to Faversham (in 55 AD) comes from Tacitus’ Agricola (Chapter 20), he talks about the Roman fleet defeating the ‘British’ fleet off Faversham coast. Faversham is also mentioned in Ptolemy’s Geographia of c 150.
