The Fairy Glen Waterfall in the Haigh Plantations by munki-boy
Fairy Glen Waterfall Wigan
There is a small waterfall below the Fairy Glen area of the Haigh Country Park that is probably part of an old ornamental garden formed by quarrying out part of a small stream with a pond acting as a reservoir above.
The waterfall itself is very small and rarely has more than a trickle of water these days. It’s not much of a struggle to get to the foot of the fall from the footpath but it’s steep, rocky and muddy - the view is marred by a dated-looking, metal bridge above, but this does afford a view down the fall from the main-footpath.
The area is now overgrown and not part of the ‘official’, modern paths through the country park but is still quite accessible, with evidence of a few feet still passing through.
Disambiguation: There is another Fairy Glen Waterfall, in nearby Appley Bridge that is better known and possibly an easier visit.
