Dean Black Brook
Dean Black Brook flows down from the moorland below Great Hill and Black Hill Upper above White Coppice.
A quiet stream through small, sometimes rocky ravines for much of its course, Dean Black Brook looks natural but the banks have evidence of old lead mines and tramways. The bottom section of the stream flows over a series of stone weirs and small waterfalls created by quarrying, just above the village of White Coppice and is popular with walkers.
For the more curious, a steep hike up beside an old quarry soon reveals the moorland plateau with further small waterfalls, ruined farms, old lead mines and spectacular views over Chorley and out to the coast.
