County Sligo

County Sligo is in northwestern Ireland. The area’s literary legacy is represented by W.B. Yeats, whose tomb can be found in a cemetery in Drumcliff, near Benbulbin Mountain, which has a flat top. Innisfree Island, which is located near Lough Gill, inspired one of his poems.

The Yeats Memorial Building, which contains an exhibit and a library, is located in Sligo, the county seat. The medieval abbey of Sligo town is complemented by the Model contemporary arts center.

Carrowkeel Megalithic Cemetery, believed to have been built around 3300 BC, is composed of stone cairns. The county’s coastal cliffs are popular with climbers. Rosses Point Beach is known for its ice cream and Sligo Bay is popular for windsurfing.

The county contains the town of Ballysadare, which holds a Halloween festival that includes a parade filled with people dressed as witches.
