Branscombe

The historic village of Branscombe in Devon, England is home to a number of interesting landmarks and features.

The village is located within the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and is situated on the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site which stretches for 95 miles from Exmouth in Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset

Branscombe is thought to be one of the oldest villages in Devon, with evidence of human occupation dating back to the Bronze Age.

The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book, and there are a number of Grade I and II listed buildings within the village.

Notable landmarks include St Winifred’s Church, which dates back to the 12th century, and Branscombe Forge, which is thought to be the oldest working forge in England.

There are also a number of interesting shops and businesses located in the village, including a thatched cottage bakery and a pottery studio.

Branscombe is well-known for its annual food festival, which takes place in May, and for its traditional thatched roofs.

The village is home to a number of bed and breakfasts, as well as a campsite which is located within walking distance of the beach.

Branscombe is in East Devon AONB, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
