Bowness On Windermere
Bowness On Windermere is in The Lake District National Park in England.
Bowness on Windermere is a sprawling tourist town on the shore of Windermere lake. It is the Lake District’s most popular visitor destination and Bowness on Windermere is busy for the majority of the year. Tourists come to relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the area and the town’s beautiful setting. Many come to enjoy the lake for sailing and watersports.
There is Victorian influence to be seen everywhere. In the late 19th century large residences were built overlooking the lake. Many of these have now been converted to hotels, such as the Langdale Chase Hotel, Storrs Hall Hotel, and the Belsfield Hotel.
St Martin’s Church is the parish Church of Bowness on Windermere. It was built in 1483 and has had various alterations. It was restored and enlarged in 1870. It is probably the most interesting building in Bowness on Windermere and is worth a visit.
The area behind the church is the oldest part of Bowness on Windermere and is a delightful web of narrow streets known as Lowside.
