Bolton Castle

Bolton Castle is in The Yorkshire Dales National Park in England.

Bolton Castle is a castle in North Yorkshire, England. It was originally built in the 14th century. Evidence suggests that there were earlier wooden fortifications on this site before it became a stone castle. During the English civil war (1642-1651) between king and parliament, Bolton castle was taken over by parliamentary supporters. Like many other castles Bolton suffered damage at this time.

Bolton Castle is located about 5 miles west of Wensleydale, an area renowned for its cheese. The surrounding land is used for hiking trails, mountainbiking trails, and horseback riding trails.

The castle itself is open to public tours. There are different types of tour guides including live guided tours and events.
