Blacko Tower
Grade II listed Blacko Tower, also known as Stansfield Tower is a folly on Blacko Hill.
A plaque reads “Built by J Stansfield 1890 Restored 1950s (Ps 127 v 1 Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.)”.
Stansfield or Blacko tower is a round tower and was built as a folly. Approximately 30ft high and constructed of coursed rubble. Widely spaced battlements. Two steps up to plain doorway. Spiral stone staircase inside leading to observation platform. Prominent hilltop landmark.
