Bidston
The village of Bidston is in Birkenhead on the Wirral Peninsula, in England. It is situated between Birkenhead Park and Wallasey Golf Club.
Bidston was originally a small agricultural hamlet, but grew rapidly during the Industrial Revolution as industries such as shipbuilding and chemical manufacturing moved into the area. The village became part of Birkenhead in 1877, when Birkenhead was granted borough status.
Today, Bidston is a residential area with a population of around 4,500 people. There are a number of shops and businesses in the village, as well as Bidston Hall, which is a grade II listed building. Bidston is also home to Bidston Observatory, which was built in 1866 and is one of the oldest working meteorological observatories in the world.
